"When I was in college, I was in the best shape I had ever been in and was comfortable with my own body. I was active through the dance minor program for a few years, and I also was an aerialist. After I graduated college, I started to put my health on the back burner. I continued this bad habit of not making my health a priority for two years. One day, I was talking to Tara Wallace, one of the Barre instructors, and she told me about this amazing gym that was going to be opening up in Powell. I knew it was time to make a change when I stepped on the scale and was almost 190 pounds. I had gained almost 40 pounds since graduating college. I was so upset with myself, but knew that I was in control of making a lifestyle change. That’s when I remembered about the conversation I had with Tara about Crossroads. In October of 2018, I started my membership with Crossroads Fitness. I loved that Crossroads offers a variety of classes and that the instructors create such a welcoming atmosphere. I never once felt judged when I started, which made me want to come back every week. Since joining, I have lost 20 pounds while gaining the confidence back that I was missing for years. I learned that to see results, I had to make a lifestyle change. I had to want to change. I had to take the time to make conscious decisions about my eating and fitness. Angie is a faithful member of ours and has the sweetest spirit. She's a Lady Boss who owns her own company called Hair by Angie and makes time to workout, serve others and care for her family. Here is her transformation story:
"All of my life I never worried about my weight until I got in my 40s. Then I started gaining weight and kept getting heavier. I loved to do Zumba but no one in the local area had class times that would fit my schedule. But in June 2018 I decided to make a change! I wanted to lose weight because my cholesterol was getting high and I felt so tired all of the time. Crossroads Fitness opened up just down the street from me so I had no more excuses. Class times fit in my schedule and I had done Zumba occasionally with Samantha before. I love her motivation to keep me going and the fun that she brings to each class. I am now down 22 pounds I feel so much better and was able to come off of my cholesterol meds! I'm so blessed to have a fitness studio where I always feel welcome and I always leave happy"😊 We are so thankful for you Angie and glad that you choose us to dance with you through your fitness journey💃

"As a child I was involved in ballet, gymnastics & cheerleading which kept me in good shape. When I graduated, went to college, became a mom & started working full time, my attention shifted to family & career. Most of my young adult life, I focused on a low-carb diet & was able to stay at my ideal weight & never worried about exercise. Fast forward to 2017- I was slowly but surely gaining weight. I started working out a couple days a week at a well-known local gym but never felt the connection to the gym & never saw results. Then, in early 2018 I decided to do something other than just watching my diet, I needed exercise that I enjoyed. My sister told me about “a new gym open in Powell with Barre classes”. That night, we went to Tara’s Barre class & memories from my days in dance that helped build my confidence as a girl were coming back to me & I liked it. I made a commitment to myself that day – go to class a couple days a week & start watching my calories. I told myself that 2018 was going to be my year. What started to happen was amazing! I actually WANTED to be at Crossroads. I went from going a couple days a week to going 6 days a week. I lost 20lbs & more importantly I started to be less stressed, more toned, and FEEL better. Today I am still on my fitness journey. This journey for me, & many women, isn't easy & I’ve learned to accept that. I have to work for it, but in the end, I am really proud of myself & thankful that Crossroads has given me the opportunity to get back to my much more confident self! The instructors are well-trained & certified in each area that they teach. I go the the morning classes because it works best for my schedule & I love all the classes they have to offer."

"I became an instructor over 8 years ago. I was in the best shape of my adult life. My family moved to North Carolina and I hated it there. I actually let all of my certifications expire and I sat on my rear end and didn’t take care of me. I was very sad. That led to a very large weight gain. We moved back to Tennessee and one day I decided to take charge of my life again. I earned all of my certifications back and then some. I began teaching and being joyful again - even becoming a Master Trainer for Barre Above. The first time I met Samantha I loved the vibe of Crossroads. It made me happy. The clients are so inclusive and make sure everyone is having a blast. I feel whole again now that I am taking care of me. I’m not sluggish, I sleep better and I’m being a better example for my kids. If you are considering trying out Crossroads - DO IT! You will be embraced, loved, challenged and sweaty! And you might even have fun!"⠀⠀
"My weight & fitness level have fluctuated greatly since I was a young girl. I became motivated to focus on my health & fitness in Jan. 2018. I was the most unhealthy I had ever been. I knew I wanted to make a big change before entering the next stage of my life - graduate school. I started to eat more intuitively & workout regularly, but the real change occurred when I joined Crossroads!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I have attended Zumba classes with Sam off & on for years & it has always been my absolute favorite way to workout. I decided to join Crossroads because I knew group fitness is the type of exercise that motivates me & I actually look forward to classes! The variety of classes offered & the reputation of the instructors played a huge role in my decision to join. I have tried all the classes & I love every single one! The mixture of classes helped me lose weight, build muscle, increase stamina, gain confidence, & so much more. I have not tracked weight/inches as I did not want to become fixated on numbers, but I have seen so much change in the past year of my fitness journey with Crossroads. One measurable change is an increase in cardiovascular health. My average resting heart rate was around 80-90 & is now 45-55. My mindset is the most significant change that has occurred. I no longer look at fitness as a chore, but rather as a privilege & a fun, stress-relieving part of my life. I am unbelievably more energetic & I have so much more stamina. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
To anyone considering joining, you should, without a doubt, give it a try! Tin'as story is one of bravery, perseverance, and strength. She is such a joy to have at Crossroads and is an encourager to everyone! Here is her story:
"In August of 2017, I was diagnosed with an aggressive type of Breast Cancer. It was in Stage 3. I immediately had chemotherapy from September through the end of December. The mass was very large and the doctors said that the chemo couldn’t get rid of the cancer, but could shrink it to make surgery easier. All praise to God, before my last round of chemo I had an MRI which showed a complete total response - No Cancer. In January I had a bilateral mastectomy. From April through the end of May, I had 35 treatments of Proton Radiation. So as one could imagine, I was weak and had very low energy levels. In July of 2018 , I started going to Physical Therapy to treat some side effects of all my body has gone through. If you see me slipping out of class early, I’m probably headed to a PT appointment. About the same time I started PT, I knew I needed to start doing some kind of exercise to rebuild some strength. I decided to go to a class at Crossroads and I loved it. I have loved every class I’ve tried! There really is no judgement if I can’t do some of the moves. I have enjoyed meeting new people and making new friends. My transformation has been in my energy level and in regaining strength. I am so thankful to have a place right here in Powell that offers such a variety of classes. Each day I feel better and better. If you’re thinking of coming to Crossroads, I would highly recommend it! There are some of the sweetest people in the classes. We may get our heart rate up , but we smile and laugh as we do it! I’m thankful to God for the healing He has done in my body and I’m thankful that I am able to go and exercise. The pictures are each month from January 2018 to December 2018. I was very sick and weak in those beginning pictures. I hope these pictures can be used to encourage someone who may be going through cancer or chemo treatments."

"I have always struggled with my weight and one of my family members, who is near and dear to my heart, told me that I had let my weight get out of control and that I needed to do something about it. Most people would probably be upset about this but this person is very special to me and I value their opinion. They were my initial motivating factor to change my lifestyle and become healthier. Not only for myself but also for my family. I joined Crossroads because I love taking classes from Sam. I had started going to Zumba at Wallace Memorial and really enjoyed the social aspects as well as being silly, having fun, and working out all the same time. So when Crossroads opened I knew I had to join and continue the fun not only with Sam but also with the other great instructors! I love the variety of classes offered, which allow me to mix up my workout routine and try new things! I am not exactly sure how many inches our pounds I have lost. I try not to weigh myself because I feel like I would obsess over a number but I can definitely tell my strength training and cardio are paying off. My overall goal is to be healthy and tone and I feel I’m on my way to achieving this and so much more! I feel amazing! I’m happier and healthier than I’ve ever been. My advice to someone thinking about coming to Crossroads is to give every class a shot. You will never know until you try it. Being out of your comfort zone is okay. You may discover you really enjoy a class you had preconceptions about....like Barre 😀. All you have to lose is stress and weight! Plus you may gain some new friends along the way like I have!"

"Since I was a young girl I struggled with my weight. I was always in an "I'll start tomorrow" mindset. In 2014 I was about to graduate with my masters degree, start a new chapter of my life, and I was the heaviest I'd ever been. I prayed that God would give me the strength and will power to make a dramatic change in my eating habits. I lost 50 pounds! But, within a few years I had gained it all back. The first time I was able to restrict my diet, but I did not add exercise. It wasn't a lifestyle change. This go around, I have lost that 50 pounds again. I did it by eating healthy (but not completely restricting my favorites) AND exercising. The two go hand in hand. I have learned that if you go on a "diet" you may lose weight. However, if you want to be healthy and keep it off, you have to change your mindset and lifestyle. When Sam mentioned her plans for opening Crossroads she asked my opinion about instructors in the area. I knew I wanted to take my fitness to the next level and asked if I could be her Barre instructor! I became certified, taught my first class at Crossroads and fell in love - with Barre, with instructing and mostly with the sweet and amazing people I get to see every day at this amazing facility! I feel so much better where I am at now. I feel healthy and happy! If you are thinking about coming to classes at Crossroads, stop telling yourself you will "start tomorrow" or "start Monday" or "start in the new year". Crossroads is for you, wherever you may be in your journey. We have become a little family that encourages one another and you will fit right in! My advice is keep asking God for strength and remember fitness is a journey not a destination!"

"My weight was getting out of control. I wanted to be around for my precious grandchildren and I knew I had to do something. I started going to Zumba classes a few nights a week and I loved it. When Sam opened Crossroads I went to classes there but I was skeptical about making a commitment and getting the unlimited pass because I had done a monthly gym membership somewhere else before and never went. But Crossroads is different! They offer so many different types of classes. I have tried most of the classes and love them! I love how the instructors show modifications so everyone can participate and choose moves that work best for them. I've always struggled with my weight but Sam has encouraged me every step of the way and motivated me to continue making progress. I haven't tracked my weight or inches so I can't tell you exactly what I have lost but I can say I've never felt better! And with all the help and encouragement from the awesome instructors and great new friends, I am making a commitment to myself to keep striving to a better, healthier me! "Keeping my weight down has always been a struggle for me. It’s something that I constantly have to work on. As I’ve gotten older, it’s become harder and harder for me. A few years ago I stepped WAY outside of my comfort zone and started going to a gym and attended some group fitness classes, but never found somewhere where I really felt was a good fit for me. I started coming to classes at Crossroads Fitness in April and was hooked! I love all of the classes! The instructors are all great and make you feel like you belong. There is zero judgement from others in the classes. I usually attend 6 or more classes a week. Since starting in April, I’ve lost 15 pounds and 19 inches total! I feel great and I am able to do things that I physically wasn’t able to do before I started. I have invited all of my friends to attend classes with me and will continue doing so!"

"I love Crossroads Fitness! I have struggled with my weight all my life, even as a child. My weight has gone up and down through the years as I tried different diets and work out programs. I began coming to Crossroads in April, and what a difference it has made! There are so many classes offered each day that it is easy to find one to fit into your schedule. I personally go to one or two classes a day, 4-5 times a week because there is such variety and they are so fun! Everything from Zumba, Zumba Toning, Sculpt&Burn, and Barre have made such a difference in allowing me to gain strength, muscle and burn calories. I have lost 47 pounds and gained a love for fitness! We are going to kick off a Transformation Tuesday series with our owner and Zumba Instructor Samantha 😮 ❤️Here is what she has to say about her dramatic transformation!
"I am a mom of three, ages 10, 7 and 3. I didn't begin my fitness journey until after my second baby was born. I had to take fertility medications which made me gain weight before I even started packing on the pregnancy weight! With my first child I gained over 70 pounds! What!?! That's right 70 pounds. With the second one I gained that much too, but I never completely lost all the pounds from the first one. So, to say after Jasper was born I didn't feel like myself would be an understatement. I decided to try a Zumba class and boy did the pounds start to fall off💃. I lost all the baby weight and then some and I lost over 50 inches. I had my energy back, I felt good and truly loved working out because every class was a party🎉. I didn't have to force myself to go because I couldn't wait to get back to class. I decided to become a licensed Zumba Instructor so I could share my love of exercise with others. During my last pregnancy I continued to teach 3-4 days a week, make wise food choices and only gained the recommended 30 pounds. My pregnancy, delivery and recovery was so much easier because I continued to worked out, was healthy and fit. I felt great and went back to teaching classes about 2 weeks after delivery and all the weight came off quickly. I have now maintained my health and weight for over 3 years and could never see myself going back to how I was all those years ago.👊💪 If you are looking for a change, a new start or a fun way to exercise I highly recommend taking classes at Crossroads. The instructors and members are so encouraging and all on this fitness journey together!❤️"
